At the beginning of the last century Pasquale Rizzoli (a local artist renowned for his scuplted graves and the statue you can see in Piazza VIII Agosto), who owned the place, modified the ancient cellars of Casa Conoscenti, turning them into a trattoria and osteria. During its long history the restaurant has been known by many names, but we decided to get it back to its original one, "Buca Manzoni". In 2011 it underwent an extensive transformation, which introduced full accessibility to disabled people and many other services, all now available to customers and staff.
Three parts compose the restaurant :
The bigger room with the buffet zone (under a big copper plated fireplace) can contain up to 50 people.
The area in front of the bar, which shows the beautiful ceiling from 14th century that has been rediscovered during the renovations.
The vaults room, a discreet retreat perfect for business lunchs and meetings, can host up to 30 persons.
At the very end of the bigger room, after WC services, you can find our wonderful wine cellar, whose floor is almost totally made of trachyte slabs from ancient Rome period, probably the remains of an ancient public square.
Just a tad before the wc services you can enjoy the view of the selenite base of Casa Conoscenti's tower (which can be seen in the courtyard of Palazzo Fava, at ground floor), one of the last remaining parts of the 11th century walls of the city of Bologna.
